Holy Week

To start off, just wanna share a few shots I took while observing holy week last year. It's been a tradition in our country to give sacrifice as a gratitude to our lord Jesus Christ.

First we went to Divine Mercy, a church often visited by Filipinos every holy week.

Here we did stations of the cross on which there are basically "stations" on every chapter of Jesus' sufferings from His agony to the time He was crucified and resurrected.

We say prayers on every station

Jesus crucified in the cross

His resurrection

Afterwards we went to a town called Paombong where devotees literally re-enact Jesus Christ life and sufferings. We call this "Senakulo"

This is where devotees cover their faces while performing the tradition. They do this as a sign of humility.

Others cut their back with blades, then afterwards hitting them with bamboo wisps while they bleed

Some prefer doing it while lying down

One of few young devotees who will be playing Jesus Christ, which will be crucified later on. Take note, she's a lady.

The trendy Roman soldiers. Notice the one with Adidas shoes :))

The part where the one of the actors carries his cross

To the part where he gets crucified

This event is infested with media and foreigners too. It gets commercialized ever since.

That's my mom assisting some foreign friends

After the play the characters get themselves a drink and relax

So much for the holy week huh? :)

First

This will be the first time I'll be writing in my so called "photoblog".

Been shooting since 2008 using my nifty Nikon FM2 influenced by my good friend Mathew. I really love shooting film, it gives you that discipline and anticipation on every shot you take. I use mostly black and white for it has that classical and emotional feel to it.

To share my "adventures", from now on I will be posting interesting photos as I explore this thing called life. Will try to document them and learn more as I go along. Hopefully you'll enjoy what you see in the succeeding posts. Cheers :)

Also, please do visit my flickr site click here to see my other photos. Thanks!
